Done: From IoB Griffon to Flamespyre Phoenix

Finally done, late, but done. I only primed it. I left the painting to it's owner because he has a painted army and he knows his own colorscheme. The construct is mostly the extra parts left over from the Phoenix kit after assembling the Frostheart Phoenix, the wings, head and the wingfeathers. Then I attached those to the Griffon body, where I had cut off the lion parts, like the feet and the tail. After that I did alot of greenstuff feathers and flames. But here's some pictures of the whole thing.

HAHAA, got you offguard, a suprise update!

Long time, no post, here is a tumbleweed:

Now let's get this show on the road. Lot's have happened since the last update, some of which even related to the hobby. First of all I've developed some sort of a book addiction.
Here are some books that I've got and have read some of them.
1. A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, excellent book, if you like ASOIAF -series, you love this too.
2. Kudottujen Kujien Kaupunki (English version: City of Woven Streets), http://www.emmiitaranta.com/city-of-woven-streets super good book, about a island city where the story follows a weaver girl and the things going down on this very different society. Emmi Itäranta's second book, I would also recommend for you to read the first book, Memory of Water, http://www.emmiitaranta.com/memory-of-water , amazing world with a massive shortage of drinking water and a world of drought. Excellent book, cannot recommend enough.
3. Ready Player One, just started this one, it's looks like a fun book in a troubled near-future where every one escapes reality to this massive virtaul one, it's a book full on 80's pop references, I feel right at home with this one.
4. The Great Dune Trilogy, the first three Dune books, I got this one with the same order as the Ready Player One to get a discount, might give this one a try after that one.

The dwarfs are all primed up and ready to paint. I have actually started these a little bit with my son, as it's his army. More to come.

Quick terrain piece I made with kids, some stone warehouse, for a fantasy battlefield.
There's a new 40k Patrol turnament at my local gaming store, my list is 2 trukks full of shoota boys, 3 deffkoptas in groups of 2 and 1, 5 Mek Gunz with Kustom-Mega-Cannons with all the grots and ammo runt's you can get, everything is so full of rokkits as they could be. Needed to build one new trukk and 3 more Mek Gunz for the list. Pictures below:

As a cherry on the "top", got a new airbrush compressor, super silent, very nice, much air, such compression.

Painting timelapse video

I made a painting video for a big Finnish newspaper to accompany an article they made about us playing Warhammer and Necromunda. The point of the video is just to show the readers what kind of a process it is to assemble and paint a single miniature.

If the newspapers videoplatform doesn't work for you, here's my youtube copy of it:
http://youtu.be/6tYc62HkxKE

The texts are in Finnish, because it's a Finnish newspaper and the readers are also Finnish. The things that I could done better: better quality camera and better lighting setup. Next time...

Sorry for keeping the blog quiet for a while, there was christmas, this article and video and family stuff.

WIP: Vampire Counts: Hexwraith, part 3

Started the drybrushing progress on the Hexwraiths. First trying it on one. The one on the left is drybrushed with Vallejo Wolf Grey, the original basecolor. The right Hexwraith is not yet drybrushed but it's in the picture just for reference and comparison.
Same with this picture, showing the comparsin on the progression, left one is the drybrushed and the right one is not.

Now all of them are drybrushed and one I finished highlighting. Also started to  fix the mould gaps on the horse's heads.

The highlighted one, used Citadel Skull White for the highlight. The thing next to the left eye socket is a thrash from the mould gap fixing progress, noticed it just as I uploaded these pictures, better ones when they are all done.

WIP: Vampire Counts: Hexraiths part 2

I continued my Border Patrol list's hexwraiths a bit last night. I blasted the wraiths with Vallejo Wolf Grey over the grey primer. This gave them a whiter basecolor. The aim is to paint them ghosly white at the end and with white you need to start with a darker tone and build up to the bright Citadel Skull White.
Then I washed them over with Citadels Thraka Green -wash. It looked good on the first wraith so I went and washed them all with the Thraka Green.

They are ready for some drybrushing with the Vallejo Wolf Grey now, but that's for the next part. Also I need to fix the gaps on the horse heads, they just stick out to me too much, can't have that, must fix :)

Goblin Doomdiver

Painted this Doomdiver fairly fast, I promised to borrow it to a new player, who joined the local gaming stores tournament. He didn't have one and he wanted to play it on the list. So I said I could loan him one. This one is painted with my Night Goblins colorscheme in mind.
I forgot to list the paint's I used but I'll get back to that when I have the pots in my hands, so I get them right on the first try.
With this model I used the brown Maston Primer spray, I thought it suited this model better when it had wood and rusted iron parts.

The marker you can see on the backround is just plasticard with a nightgoblin musican's disk clued on to it, I couldn't find the any extra small flying base laying around so I made the marker out of plasticard. It's the same size as the original small flying base and does the job.

Random hobby update #560934052

The mailman delivered me 36 inches of green stuff, nice.

Fell Bats and uncle Kemmler primed, nice.

Fixed a missing arm on a Blood Dragon vampire. The arm made of green stuff, used another Blood Dragons sword arm as a model, then attached a Black Knight lance to it. Riding Lord Von Carstein's barded Nightmare, he is just borrowing it, Lord Von Carstein will get it back.
Then a sneakpeak of my border patrol armylist. Also Black Knights have their shields already, not shown in the picture.

WIP: Vampire Counts: Bat Swarms

Started painting these Bat Swarms. Trying to make them look a bit like Myotis lucifugus because the models just resemble them.

1. Primer: Maston 518 grey
2. Snakebite leather for the body
3. 50/50 mix of Chaos Black and Scorhed Brown on wings and ears
4. Washed with Devlan Mud
5. Bleached Bone for the teeth
(6. Chaos Black for the "support-sticks", not shown in the pictures)

WIP: Vampire Counts: Black Knights, part1

The HexWraith/Black Knight box comes with 5 mounts, the hexwraith got them. But as I got bunch of old miniatures from some awesome people, I also got some old plastic Skeleton Riders. That was good news to the Black Knights because they got their mounts stolen by their ethereal brothers-in-arms. Everyone is happy now, the old skeletal horses fit the new Black Knights well. Next up: the paint!

I took the pictures before glueing  them together.
